The top Attractions in Washington DCC
The city of Washington, with such a rich historical background has no shortage of landmarks, only a few of which can be listed here. They are also quite close to the main Washington hotels too, making them easy to get to. There are no prizes for guessing which landmark is at the top of everyone's list:
The White House
Built in the late 18th century this neoclassical design makes a striking centrepoint of the city and everyone will have at least one photograph of themselves with the White House behind them. Tours of the building and the gardens are available, although limited and usually arranged in groups. They are well worth doing though if at all possible since it is most peoples only opportunity to have a look around.
The Washington Monument
Sat in the heart of the National Mall directly in front of the Reflecting Pool is this 555 feet tall white marble covered obelisk; a memorial to President George Washington. This site has been at the centre of many great parts of American history, being seen in news footage throughout the years. It is this that makes visiting the site so worthwhile - feeling the passion and energy that has been here.Vietnam Veterans Memorial
The Memorial is actually made up of three parts; the Memorial Wall, the Three Soldiers Statue and the Vietnam Women's Memorial, but it is "the Wall" that is the most well known image. Two long walls of granite, each almost 250 feet long and 10 feet tall, are engraved with the names of every person who died in the Vietnam War, ordered chronologically.
